July Artisanal Bazaar @ LilaSky

Artwalk with a twist

Last week we hosted our second Artisanal Bazaar. It was less busy than last month but OMG was it hot outside! This time around we had the support of four amazing women who also very inspiring. These lovely women, resident songwriter and music performer Stephany Romay (@stephanieromay), Stephanie's sister Orly Romay (@vintasoulworld), Marie Whitman (@eatyourpoem) and last but not least, Venezuelan artist Ariana Villar (@Av_artist). They are such a great support not only for the community but for me as well.

Parallel to Hollywood's Art Walk, our Bazaar ran from 5 - 10 pm. This time around we mixed things up and had live art from the talented Venezuelan artist Ariana Villar who created an incredible art piece from scratch right in our front door. This was such an incredible experience to see her art piece come to life from inception to completion! People gather around as she was sketching and painting her piece. It was really a great experience for whoever happened to walk through our storefront.

Meanwhile inside, the Romay sisters made themselves at home and set up a beautiful pop up display for Vinta Soul . I took the opportunity to also have a couple of poems written for my kids by Marie Whitman and I right on the spot. Thank you again Marie for these lovely words. I have them hanging at the store as a daily reminder of what a bless to have my children <3

It turned out to be a great night. By the end of the evening I was super happy of our turnout. What I enjoyed the most was hosting these wonderful women as well as our guests. I think everyone who attended got a glimpse of the wonderful work we're doing downtown Hollywood. Lots of positive feedback to our pop up stores as well as our own.

Come join us next time!

Mommy and Me Yoga @ LilaSky

What on earth can a 12 month old get out of a yoga class you ask?

Only an abundance of developmental benefits! 2 months ago, YogaTwist debuted a Mommy and me toddler yoga class for ages 1-3 at the sweet LilaSky concept store that has been ommmmazing! In just 8 classes, there have been so many benefits for the kids and their mommies!

Activities range from taking turns sounding the Tibetan healing bowl/chimes and chanting omms and yumms (while rubbing our tummies!) to picture books with yoga poses to act out, clapping and rhythm games, toe-go picking up Pom poms with our toes (fine motor skills), songs with interactive hand motions to help with gross motor skills and hand/eye coordination, breathing and of course a lovely relaxation with mama (more FOR mama?), complete with floating bubbles and soft music.

This class promotes emotional health with stretches and movement, balancing, and bonding for mother and child. It is a great way to socialize as well! It is so special sharing yoga with the different generations (we even have a young grandmother who comes too!)  check out the magic happening almost every Friday morning!

Contact Viviana at (954) 274-4872 for details namasté and come out to play!

Mommy & Me Yoga happens every Friday from 10:45 - 11:30 am.

Aritsanal Bazaar @ LilaSky

Artwalk with a twist

Two Saturdays ago we hosted our first ever Artisanal Bazaar. It was so exciting! I must confess I was a little nervous (perhaps too nervous) as I didn't have any expectation of what would happen that day. Luckily I had the support of four amazing women who also happen to be part of the local Hollywood small business community. These amazing women Alissa Alfonso (@alissaalfonso), Connie Villiers Furze (@shiboribythesea), Laura L (@kumofriends) & Menina Griego (@galacticwraps) are such a great support not only for the community but for me as well.

The Bazaar ran from 5 - 10 pm. My dear friend Johnny Ramirez (@johnnyafromasta) from La Family Dub helped create an amazing atmosphere by mixing world beats and other rare finds through the night.

I hope we get to do this again! Here's a sample of the Instagram story that ran through the event. Come join us next time!

Play With Me, Connect With Me

Words are the most demeaning replacement for a feeling. You can never explain to someone the connections you have and what that has carried through with you.

The ability to connect with people further than a surface level interaction is the rooted goal of Lila Sky. It does not hold the mediocre intention of a simple “cool store”. It is being designed to incorporate a feeling of peace, community, and relatability. The current world lacks those powers that we were all born with. As a baby, we began with no words and no signs, we began with connection. We wanted to understand our parents through the tones they used and the eyes they spoke to us with. We asked for nothing more than the unconditional love. As a child, we could see who a person was if they picked up the toy we gave them and if we were able to lure them into play. When the adults no longer picked it up, we knew that they lost their willingness to connect beyond what they physically saw in us. The imagination and the possibilities of dreaming were gone along with it.

Restoring that ability to connect is not an easy task to say the least. We are still on that journey with self awareness. We need to understand that the person sitting right next to you at this moment can teach you something you could never understand by yourself. The biggest step you can take right now is to say, “hello”. And with that, you have started breaking down that barrier. You simply don’t know what you don’t know until the blind spots are seen by someone else. The opportunity now is paying it forward by starting with this as the foundation to Lila Sky.

Our First Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Event

Fantastic steps forward were made today! Small samples of Lila Sky came to life with a display unlike any other presented at the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Events.

We began to develop great connections with the leaders of the city of Hollywood and the businesses circling the area. It was interesting to see the dynamic that we were able to create amongst everyone that came to get a closer look at our table. Everyone had a connection to the objects because either they had a kids or through nostalgia of their own childhood. We were able to connect with our brand on a personal level. The books were special to people and the clothing and toys showcased the global artisans that we will carry in the store. Based on the positive feedback and outreach for future collaborations, this just might be a store that Hollywood needed.
